are you ready for some wedding CRAZY?

how's this:

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for dragtable.jpgyes, you can hire someone to walk around your reception wearing a table. you can even request a drag queen. and your guests will eat hors d'oeuvres off the drag queen's skirt. the table queen character possibilities are endless- take a look.

ohno.jpgthen there's this gem... can't you feel the love? yes, you can have a desperate woman drag her resigned male prey across your wedding cake. it's how we all dream of appearing the day we say 'i do'. this image really represents a truly great partnership.  get yours here.

and lastly, for now, these lovely favor boxes. oooh, a headless bride and groom! how sweet! i can't wait to eat their chocolate innards. these just give me the heebie jeebies... but, if you'd like more information on how you too can be represented as a box, look here.
(perfect for a wedding themed wedding.)

i'm sure i'll find plenty more of these lovely items to share... discovering the ridiculous wedding paraphernalia out there is a great bonus to this planning thing!  (all this junk and we still couldn't find a 'Last Christmas Living in Sin' ornament... bah.)

last night i stopped at my parents' house on my way back from visiting emily in canandaigua. mom and dad took a break from decorating the house for christmas and we sat down at the table for a bowl of soup. while we were talking the wedding, of course, came up. my dad asked (a bit prematurely, i'd say) if i was getting nervous yet.

only about being the center of attention, i told him.

'you'll be so happy, and that's all you'll be thinking about,' my mom said.

they both talked about how they couldn't stop smiling on their wedding day. they reminded me that i'd always have someone with me on that day- my family and friends while i get ready, my dad for the walk down the aisle, and patrick right there with me at the center. my mom told me how she just remembers laughing and smiling. my dad said he doesn't even remember being aware of anyone else when he was standing at the altar with my mom. it was reassuring, but more than that- so touching to hear them talk about their wedding day. they both get so visibly happy when they remember it. i can see them as they were 30 years ago so easily- it's not all that different than the happiness their love gives them now.

we have a movie from their wedding day that my great grandmother took on 8mm film, with handmade titles between each section. it's set to music, but silent otherwise. the movie has given me a sense of how my parents looked on their wedding day. the way my mom laughed, the way they looked at each other, the way my grandparents surrounded them. we won't be able to hire a videographer for our wedding, but i hope we can find someone to at least capture a sense of our day on video. on 8mm film would be great, but i'll be happy with a digital video camera. i am lucky to have parents who remember their wedding with such happiness, and i am grateful for the images of that day that my great grandmother recorded. i'd like our children to have a similar glimpse of our day.

(another one from the days when i couldn't log in...)

we went over to meg and steve's the other night to talk about something i'm very excited about: invitations. meg is a talented graphic designer, who has done invitations for many other couples. she's helping us come up with a design for our invitations, and this was our first chat to get some ideas. she had some great suggestions, and it was lots of fun to talk about wedding stuff with someone so interested!  it's a good situation because we're able to work with a knowledgeable designer who also knows us well.  in some ways our invitations will be DIY, but we'll have the great advantage of meg's expertise. now i'm just gunning to order some paper samples!

my computer is dying and i need to get to sleep, but some wedding updates:

i bought my dress on saturday... i can't believe it. mom and katie came with me, and were just really great about knowing what i liked, what looked good, the style i was going for. [censored secret dress details.] the dress is beautiful, and i felt beautiful wearing it. the feeling of that dress- it's hard to explain. seeing myself in a wedding dress was one of the first times it hit me that this is real. we are getting married. after so many years of dreaming about this, it's happening. in 10 months we will be husband and wife.

we are finally getting a vision of the kind of vibe we want for our wedding: warm, elegant, a bit whimsical, personal, timeless. i've had some fantastic help from the wedding blogs! i used to think our wedding would be casual, an outdoor reception, maybe under a tent. once we really started planning it quickly became clear that what appears 'casual' can actually add up into a very expensive affair (tent rental, table rental, caterer, a location that works for lights/dj/food prep, a large enough space for our families, etc etc etc). oddly, the more formal route also happens to be more budget friendly. while our country club reception isn't what i originally imagined, i have grown to love the idea of an elegant affair- an event with a true sense of occasion. our families and friends will be all around us, gathered from far and wide. it won't be stuffy or overly formal, but it will feel special.  we've waited so long for this-- our marriage is an event that should be given the celebration it deserves.
